Title: Shell Canada Buys Three-Year Wind Contract
Summary: Shell Canada reviewed the option to invest in PCF to offset some of the greenhouse gas emissions from the Athabasca Oil Sands development for which the company has committed to prepare a greenhouse gas management plan. Company and local stakeholder preferences were to offset greenhouse gas emissions through activities in Canada rather than overseas under CDM or JI, hence it eventually declined PCF participation. The following short note published on page 8 of the September 28th issue of "Megawatt Daily" reports on the first carbon offsets purchase from renewables in Canada integrated with a power purchase agreement from wind-power facilities, a first for the company.
