The Olkaria II Geothermal Expansion Project consists of expanding a geothermal power plant, adding 35 MW to the current capacity of 70 MW, which will displace the electricity being generated by fossil fuel thermal power plants in the Kenyan grid.
The community benefits to be delivered under this project include the provision of clean water (through the construction of water lines and storage tanks); the provision of
educational benefits (through the construction and equipping of classrooms, administration blocks, and boarding facilities); provision of health benefits (through the construction and equipping of health centers); livestock improvements (through the rehabilitation and construction of cattle dips); and improved access to markets and educational and health facilities (through the upgrading of rural roads).
