China: Nanjing Steel Converter Gas Recovery
1 Project Documents
The project activity will introduce a converter gas collection system which will capture gas currently being vented to the atmosphere. The collected gas will be utilized for thermal purposes at the downstream steel making process and will partially replace both the blast furnace gas and coke oven gas, as a source of energy in steel production operations. These gases will in turn be used to fuel a 50MW power plant. The status quo scenario was to construct a 35MW power plant without utilization of the converter gas at the downstream facilities. Hence, this additional 15MW worth of power production for the Jiangsu power grid, where electricity is derived mostly from coal fired power plants, is deemed to create carbon revenue of approximately 1,450,000 tons CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) over ten years.
